On September 8, 2021, First China-Pakistan Think Tank Forum co-hosted by China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) and Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) was held virtually to commemorate the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China.
Held under the theme of “Evolving Regional Situation and Pakistan-China Cooperation”, the Forum was attended by Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General of ISSI; Mr. Faraz Zaidi, Director General (China) of Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Liu Jinsong, Director General of Department of Asian Affairs of Chinese MFA and Mr. Yuan Peng, President of CICIR.
During the Forum, experts from both sides reviewed the ongoing regional situation and its impacts on regional security and stability. They underscored that Pakistan-China friendship was a factor of peace and stability in the region and both countries should continue to expand their communication and coordination at all tiers to further deepen fraternal ties.
Expressing satisfaction at the steady pace of CPEC projects, both sides noted that CPEC as the flagship project of Belt and Road Initiative was important for regional connectivity and economic integration. Both sides also reaffirmed resolve to continue their efforts for completion of all CPEC projects as envisaged by the leadership and peoples of the two countries.
Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
