The China Workers Centre for International Exchanges of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) convened a conference themed “My Story with CPEC – Workers’ Perspective” today.
A part of the series of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations, the conference was held to pay tribute to workers from China and Pakistan for their role and achievements in CPEC’s development and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
The conference took place both on- and offline and was addressed by Ambassador Moin Ul Haque, H.E. Mr. Nong Rong, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Jiang Guangping, Vice Chairman of the ACFTU; as well as Mr. Asim Bajwa, Chairman of Pakistan’s CPEC Authority, senior business executives and Chinese and Pakistani workers at several CPEC projects.
Speaking at the event, Amb. Haque noted that, as always, the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership had emerged even stronger from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic and was entering a new era with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Amb. Haque appreciated the role of both governments, enterprises and workers in ensuring timely progress on CPEC projects, which were improving the quality of life in Pakistan and was helping the country’s post-pandemic economic recovery.
CPEC’s next stage of high-quality development would focus on industrial relocation, agricultural modernization, science and technology cooperation, and socioeconomic well-being. It would thus live up to its role as the flagship of the Belt and Road Initiative and unleash the human development potential of Pakistan’s youthful population, the Ambassador said.

Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
