On 21 May 2021, a special talk show was held on the PTV World to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. It was attended by Pakistan’s distinguished diplomats and former Ambassadors to China including former Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan, Ambassador Masood Khalid and Ambassador Naghmana A. Hashmi. Mr. Masood Khan, the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan’s former Ambassador to China sent a special video message.
Sharing their views, Pakistan’s former Ambassadors traced the roots of Pakistan-China friendship and its later evolution to all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to various factors. They explained that fraternal ties between Pakistan and China were forged due to convergence of political interests, commonality of views on major world challenges and mutual respect and understanding between the two countries. They paid rich tribute to the leadership of the two countries which played a key role in the development of bilateral friendship in its formative years.
Expressing satisfaction at the steady growth of bilateral ties, the former Ambassadors emphasized the need to further expand bilateral ties in trade and commerce, cultural exchanges and people-to-people exchanges.
Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
