In order to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China, an International Conference on China-Pakistan Cooperation was held on 23-24 October 2021 at Sichuan University, Chengdu. It was jointly organized by the University’s Centre for South Asian Studies, Pakistan Study Center and School of International Studies.
Held in offline/online formats, the conference was attended by more than 150 participants including Ambassadors of Pakistan and China; Professor Song Zhihui, Vice Dean of School of International Studies and Director of Pakistan Study Centre and Professor Yao Leye, Vice President of Sichuan University. Leading foreign policy experts, intellectuals and representative of major entrepreneurs of the two countries also participated in the event.
During the conference, two separate sub-forums on ‘strategic cooperation and cultural exchanges’ and ‘economic and trade cooperation and Industrial development’ were also held in which experts from both sides exchanged views on deepening cultural, economic and trade ties between Pakistan and China.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Moin ul Haque highlighted that Pakistan-China ties are rooted in bilateral trust, mutual understanding and commonality of views on major global challenges. Reviewing the steady development of economic and trade relations, he observed that Pakistan and China would continue their successful cooperation to make CPEC a high quality development project of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Ambassador expressed hope that both sides would continue to use existing mechanisms to foster stronger relations between the academic and research institutes and professionals of the two countries for joint benefit.
Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
