To celebrate 70th anniversay of establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China, 2021 China-Pakistan Electric Vehicle Industry Forum was held in Nanjing on 26 June 2021. The Forum was organized on the sidelines of the 34th International Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS34) with the support of China Electrotechnical Society (CES), Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, China Council for Promotion of International Trade Sub-Council Machinery (CCPIT-SCM) and Pakistan Special Economic Zones Co. Ltd. Pakistan pavilion showcasing investment potential of Pakistan in e-vehicle sector was also established during the SEV34. A large number of Chinese enterprises, representatives of Pakistani banks in China, trade bodies and enterprises from Pakistan, who joined online, participated in the forum.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador of Pakistan in Beijing highlighted the importance of electric vehicle industry and potential of cooperation between Pakistan and China. Pakistan’s electric vehicles policy announced in 2020 has set targets to achieve 30% of electric vehicles on roads in the country by year 2030 and 90% by 2040, which offer incentives and policy support for outside investors including from China, to tap into this vast market.
Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
