On May 25, 2021, Islamabad Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in collaboration with Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) organised a Seminar to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Pakistan.
The seminar reviewing 70 years of extra-ordinary China-Pakistan bilateral relations, focused on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), regional and global issues of mutual interests. Both sides exchanged views on regional situation in South Asia in the changing global dynamics.
Ambassador Nong Rong, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan and Ambassador Moin-ul-Haque, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China made keynote speeches during the opening ceremony.
Mr. Wang Chao, President, CPIFA and Ambassador Khalid Mahmood President of ICWA led the respective delegations. On Pakistan side, delegation comprised, Mr. Amanullah Khan, Vice President ICWA, Ambassador Rizwan ul Haq Mahmood and Secretary General ICWA.
Other participants were Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatemi, Former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Foreign Affairs, former Foreign Secretaries Ambassador Riaz Mohammad Khan, Ambassador Riaz H. Khokhar, Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani and Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
Former Ambassador of Pakistan to China Ambassador Masood Khalid as well as President COPAIR, Ms. Amna Malik, Dr. Fazal ur Rehman, and Raja Amer Iqbal also addressed the seminar.
Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
