The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing in collaboration with the Pakistan Studies Centre, Peking University and the Guangdong Institute for International Strategies held a seminar on, ‘Promoting China-Pakistan Industrial Cooperation and Special Economic Zones Construction’ on 18-19 May 2021. The event was held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China.
Influential dignitaries, academics and individuals, from both sides participated in the conference including Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Asad Umar; Senator Mushahid Hussain; Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Moin-ul-Haque China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong; Chairman, CPEC Authority, Pakistan, Lt-Gen (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa and Director for Centre for Pakistan Studies, Peking University, Prof. Tang Mengsheng.
Expressing their views on the conference, the panelists agreed that there was a need to focus on CPEC long-term planning with a special emphasis on agriculture, industry and science & technology. Expressing satisfaction on the incentives offered by the Government of Pakistan to attract foreign investment, the panelists agreed to further deepen practical cooperation on progressively deepening bilateral industrial cooperation.
In his closing remarks Federal Minister Asad Umar said that the Government of Pakistan was wholeheartedly committed to CPEC. Updating the audience about the Prime Minister’s special attention and focus on several CPEC projects, he expressed hope that CPEC would continue to expand to all sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
Pakistan and China enjoy close and friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in May 1951. Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “all weather strategic cooperative partnership”. Pakistan considers China as one of its closest friend and partner and China considers Pakistan as its “Iron Brother”.
